When a creature becomes capable of knowing and contemplating that it will die, I will speak of it as having a soul. From then on until it loses that capability, in regard to rights and respect due a living thing, it is my equal and the equal of all such creatures, even the dangerous ones.

How 'bout babies? They're pretty stupid; I doubt they are in any way capable of knowing and contemplating their deaths.
P.S. Knowing how to use a thesaurus doesn't make you smart. And it certainly doesn't make you a good writer. Grandiose language will only make you look like a pompous buffoon.
